Saanvi’s Nursery

Hey everyone!

I thought I’d give you a quick tour of Saanvi’s nursery while I’m taking a break from feeding, poop-cleaning and sleeping ๐Ÿ™‚

This was one of my big DIY projects this year (my biggest DIY still is Saanvi ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I wanted to design a full wall of custom art for the nursery mainly because I didn’t find any wall art I liked enough to buy.

So lets start with pictures and I’ll explain things as we go. Ok? Ok!

We first started with painting the room. Daddy did all the painting since mommy was pregnant at the time and didn’t want to be near paint smells. The colors we chose were Independent Goldย and Hazel. The nursery has 2 walls of each color.

On one of the Independent Gold walls we put the wall art!

I designed the entire thing from scratch in Illustrator. The trees, birds, mushrooms, grass, animals – everything! Then cut the trees, birds, leaves and grass on vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo. I used vinyl from Expressions Vinyl for this. I used the roll feed function on the Cameo for the first time to cut the long trees and branches out. It worked great! I just had to be careful to keep all widths under 12 inches. The lengths could be anything with the roll feed.

The animals were printed on this printable vinyl and then cut on Cameo using the print-and-cut function. For some of the animals like the fox I printed it in multiple parts then assembled on the wall since the printable vinyl was 8.5 X 11 sized sheets.

To cut everything directly from Illustrator, the Silhouette Connect was very useful. The biggest challenge in this project was getting all the individual sizes right for such a large scale. Illustrator helped!

Cutting and sticking everything on the wall was a group effort for mommy and daddy. That was pretty easy though – couple of days. The designing was the longest part of the process.

Here are some more individual shots of the elements.

The best part of this project is how extensible it is! I plan to measure Saanvi’s height on one of the trees so will add little butterflies for markers as she grows! And ofcourse as she recognizes more animals, I’ll add more to the scene ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you enjoyed the project as much as I enjoyed making it! Looking forward to whenย Saanvi is old enough to enjoy it too!

Adorable! Since it was terms beyond my comprehension, I didn’t understand your steps, but the results are fabulous. And how clever that it can grow with her. You go, Mommy.

Thanks Pat! It was a big project done over a couple of months so a bit difficult to explain here in one blog post. The results were definitely worth it though!! ๐Ÿ™‚
