Video Setup

Hi all!

I’m so excited to have finally found a video setup that works for me and is super convenient to use! So wanted to share it with you all!

I invested a bit in my “studio”. After much research I concluded that a really good tripod would go a long way. And since I didn’t have any place to mount clamps, I went with a Manfrotto 190XPROB 3-Section Aluminum Pro Tripod. This is awesome because it is very tall and stable. But best of all, the middle arm comes out and can be turned 90 degrees! Perfect to shoot card videos! You do need a Manfrotto 496RC2 Ball Head with Quick Release Replaces Manfrotto 486RC2 to go with the tripod for mounting camcorders or cameras to it.

Then came the recorder. I admit to looking through a bunch of camcorders. But they were all too expensive for a beginner videomaker like me. I guess I’ll eventually get a camcorder but definitely not till I have made sufficient videos regularly! So I concluded that my best recorder would be a smart phone! So I invested in a phone holder. Specifically this one that had high reviews – Square Jellyfish Smartphone Spring Tripod Mount (Pocket Tripod not Included)

I already had the Dahle Premium 18″ x 24″ Vantage Self-Healing Cutting Mat-Black 10672. All that was needed to complete the “studio” was an Ikea Lack Table covered with a neutral bedsheet, a lamp from Ikea with a bright bulb and a nice soft pillow for me to sit on while crafting 🙂

Here is a pic of my setup…

It doesn’t look very glamorous but I promise it works!

For editing the video I use iMovie and iPhoto. I use Photoshop Elements to touch up m photos and also to create the title graphic for the video. But otherwise iMovie makes things very easy! An external mic definitely helps with the quality of the recording! I have this one – Jabra UC VOICE 550 Duo Corded Headset for Softphone

Hoping to make more videos this year! I would love to get feedback on them to improve and become better! Do check them out on my Youtube Channel if you haven’t already. And if you have thought on the videos or on the recording setup, please do share in the comments!
