Its Day 1 of our bloghop today!!! And its all about Diwali cards 🙂

Let me start with telling you a little about Diwali. Wikipedia says a lot about it but I want to talk about my personal experience with it. Its a big festival in India where I am from. A lot like the holiday season here! It has a lot of religious significance in the Hindu religion but I enjoy it for the festive spirit it brings.

We make lots of delicious sweets, light lamps to brighten our homes and gift each other gifts and cards. We also draw beautiful Rangoli patterns outside our houses and light a few (many!) fireworks.

Staying in US, away from our families, my husband and I miss celebrating Diwali the way we did at home. So this year I decided to send Diwali cards to all our friends here in US. Yes, physical, honest-to-goodness paper cards!

Here are few samples I made to decide on the pattern to mass produce:

Supplies:

Cardstock: PTI rustic cream for base, black cardstock for panel and cutout, PTI white for colored panel
Stamp: PTI Mehendi Medallion
Inks: Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey distress inks, white embossing powder, gold embossing powder
Tools: Silhouette Cameo for Happy Diwali cutout, Heat gun for embossing

 

Supplies:

Cardstock: PTI white for base, PTI kraft for panel, TE cardstock for sentiment strip, PTI white for medallion
Stamp: PTI Mehendi Medallion
Inks: Memento red ink, Tattered Rose distress ink for medallion
Tools: Silhouette Cameo for medallion cutout

I finally settled on the design below as best for making 50 cards! My Cameo was extremely useful to me in the process and I made several cutting files on my own for the cards! Here is the card that I sent to all our friends and family in US:


Supplies:

Cardstock: PTI kraft for base, Bazzil brown for lower panel, PTI kraft for sentiment, patterned paper and shiny paper from Joann, black paper for lamp
Tools: Silhouette Cameo for lamp, printer for sentiment

I made a lot of those!

I kept the card simple with no stamping. I designed the lamp and cut it out on my Cameo then ran the cutouts through my Xyron to stick them on the shiny square. I really do need a corner chomper to make rounding corners less painful next time 🙂 The sentiment uses Samarkan font which is very similar to Indian script.

Now for some giveaways! As I said before, I designed a lot of cutting files for Diwali since I couldn’t find any online. I am giving away 2 of them for free today and will have 2 more tomorrow. Here are today’s 2 files:

    Hi!!! I’m new to card making. My moms friends asked me to make Diwali cards but I don’t have a silhouette cameo. I just purchased a big shot recently. Maybe I’ll order a custom stamp with the sentiment. These are inspiring! I also need to make Eid Mubarak cards too :))
