Iron Craft #1

EDIT 3/11/2013: Iron Craft is a weekly series now!! Read all about it here!
I promised you a VERY SPECIAL post today, didn’t I? Here it is!I enjoy watching Iron Chef on Food Network where a newbie chef cooks against a celebrity chef using the same ingredients to decide “whose cuisine reigns supreme!”. That got me thinking of a similar idea for papercrafting.

Wouldn’t it be fun if I could make a card with a celebrity crafter using the same stamps and the same sketch? Leaving out the competition aspect, this would provide such a great inspiration to everyone and could be a very nice way to get to know new papercrafters.

SO I have a special celebrity to play along with me, the newbie, today! Its Gayatri from Handmade by G3!!!

I’m shamelessly stealing the post title from her which is as witty as her cards and blog!

A little intro for Gayatri (not that she needs one). She has a lovely, unique style making CAS cards especially ones with her stamped patterned paper. Her cards have been featured on many blogs and published as well. Most recently, she was invited to be a Girl Friday on CAS-ual Fridays! If you aren’t already following her blog, you should!

For this challenge, we are both using Papertrey Ink’s Stitches and Swirls, Rosie Posie and Birthday Inside Out stamp sets. Was a bit of challenge narrowing down to the ones we have due to my limited collection 🙂 Gayatri also designed an awesome sketch for us to play along!

Here is the sketch we used:

Here is Gayatri’s card. Do drop by her blog to read more about her card!

And here is mine!

 Supplies:

Cardstock: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White
Inks: Spiced Marmalade distress ink, Inkadinkado green and pink, Memento tuxedo black
Stamp: PTI Stitches and Swirls, PTI Rosie Posie, PTI Birthday Inside Out

I decided to try and keep my card as CAS as possible in honor of Gayatri’s style. Made the background masking off the area using post-its and then distress inked it.

Hope you enjoyed this first Iron Chef post! I would love to make this more regular if there is interest. So if you would like to play along in a future version, leave me a comment. And if you know a “celebrity crafter” who would like to join in for this, leave me a comment about that as well!

Awesome. I have been following her blog as well. And I love her cards, so do I love yours. 🙂 Nice card and great idea. If only some Iron Chef(read crafter) would like to craft with me, I would learn so much. 🙂
